1:1 Teen Social Coaching
If your teen is looking for a more quiet setting to gain some of the basic social communication rules, they can meet for 1:1 social coaching sessions. The teenage years bring about a lot of change and the relationship between the child and parent can become strained due to a teen's struggle for independence. You add the communication barrier that autism brings to this and sometimes a teenager with HFA may need to talk with someone other than their parents during these tough years. The Social Coach will work with your teen on the daily highs and lows that they go through and teach them the social strategies to help cope with the anxieties of adult life. The sessions will be individualized and driven by the client's current challenges. The sessions can be scheduled weekly, biweekly, monthly, etc. The Social Coach will meet with the teen individually but will keep in close contact with the parents through email, phone and/or a family session can be scheduled (additional fees).
Topics often discussed by teens: dating rules/norms, sexuality/relationships/intimacy, levels of friendship, homework/test/projects/group projects, organization, study habits, college, family dynamics, seeking jobs, recognizing the size of problem and what the reaction to a problem should be, conflict resolution, teenage norms, etc. Social Coaching Sessions: ($60.00/hour) Convenient location will be decided after registration |
