We have been able to schedule learning opportunities with the following businesses and community services in South Lyon for each of our summer camp sessions: South Lyon Police and Fire Department, Pets Supplies Plus, Busch's Grocery Store, Parkside Cleaners, CVS Pharmacy, Salem-South Lyon District Library, PINZ Bowling, the Lyon Theater, Rainbow Ice, and Little Caesar's. We will also be working with a few therapy dogs and learning about the responsibilities of owning a dog and grooming. Pets Supplies Plus is allowing us to utilize their do-it-yourself wash and grooming stations for any campers that would like to bring a dog (I have two friendly labs and my mom and a sweet labradoodle) to practice washing and brushing a dog. Because almost all of the sites that we will be visiting are within walking distance, we will be able to get out daily and also split up into smaller groups so that each trip becomes even more individualized in it's learning experience.
Another exciting update for me to share is that we are now able to accept 15 year olds for this summer's camp. I work with older teens every day and feel very strongly that they need all the daily living and community skills that we will be covering in this camp. Well, OUCARES also feels the same, but apparently there are things like money, policies, and legalities that take more time than what we had for it to happen for this summer's camp. OK, FINE ;-) For those of you who know me, these are two very difficult things for me... to concede and then to wait! So we stretched the age limit to 15 for now. Look forward to an addition to this camp in the future for 15-18 year old young adults!
Thanks for all your continued support,
Sabra Evans and the TS team!
